The Why, Who, and How of Teeth Whitening

Popular opinion considers a great smile to be a major plus in good first impressions. An attractive smile instantly boosts your features and your self-confidence, but if your smile is naturally dull or discolored, we can suggest teeth whitening as a quick and simple way to give your smile a lift. To help you learn more about this cosmetic option, we offer information that addresses the why, who, and how of teeth whitening.

Why Teeth Whitening Is Safe
When you receive professional teeth whitening treatment, you are in the hands of dental professionals such as dentists, who have the knowledge to customize your treatment based on your oral health, and can ensure your treatment plan is safe and effective.

Who Prefers Teeth Whitening
Many people prefer teeth whitening over dental veneers and replacement crowns because, unlike the latter two, it doesn’t doesn’t involve removing healthy tooth structure. You may find other cosmetic procedures to be perfectly appropriate, but teeth whitening is perhaps the most minimally invasive option you can choose.

How Teeth Whitening Is Performed
Teeth whitening treatment is fairly simple; it involves placing a powerful dental peroxide bleach within custom-made teeth trays and inserting them into your mouth for the amount of time needed to lighten your teeth to the desired shade. You may be able to achieve your goal in just one visit, but please keep in mind additional treatment sessions may be needed depending on your original tooth color and whitening goal.

Do You Want Your Dream Smile this Christmas? Here Are Some Tips

Christmas is a bright time of year, especially because of the countless Christmas lights and the spotless snow. To make the season even brighter, you need a pristine smile. Having a bright and brilliant smile will help you have the confidence you need to talk, laugh and smile while you open your gifts and go to family parties.

To help you achieve the smile of your dreams this holiday season, our Paul R. Stanovick, DDS dental team encourages you to do the following things:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. It’s also recommended to floss your smile and rinse your mouth at least once a day. In addition to brushing, flossing and rinsing, you need to visit your dentist every six months for a routine cleaning and checkup. So if you’re due for your professional dental cleaning, schedule an appointment now.

-Take advantage of teeth whitening: For a stunning and beautiful smile this holiday season, take advantage of teeth whitening. There are many treatments available, but if you want a beneficial and successful treatment, talk to your dentist about a professional whitening treatment.

-Don’t open your presents with your teeth: Using your teeth as tools could damage your smile more than you know. This is why we ask you to avoid opening your Christmas gifts with your teeth. Doing so can chip and fracture your teeth.

-Get a smile makeover: If you’re embarrassed by your smile, now is the time to consider a smile makeover. There are many treatments available that can help you achieve the smile of your dreams, like dental crowns, dental bridges, dental implants, dental veneers and more. Call our office now if you would like to know what we can do to enhance the appearance of your smile.

Take Advantage of Summertime by Getting Your Families Checkups

Welcome to the dental practice of Paul R. Stanovick, DDS, where Drs. Paul and Brant Stanovick are pleased to provide comprehensive, family-friendly dentistry for our patients in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and the neighboring communities. While summer is typically viewed as a time when many families choose to vacation and relax from the daily demands of the school-year routine, it is also a perfect time to be seen for routine dental cleanings and checkups for you and your family.

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) reports that patients who have routine six-month dental cleanings and exams benefit from improved oral health. Not only do these visits help prevent gum disease, tooth decay and bad breath, but they can help lower the risk for certain diseases such as heart disease and stroke. Why is six months the recommended time period for dental checkups? Well, during a six-month period, tartar build up will require a professional dental cleaning to remove it. In addition to cleaning those pearly whites, we also check to make sure the teeth and gums are healthy, and check for any other oral health anomalies.

So, if you like to plan ahead of end-of-year dental work to be done, or just want to take advantage of this summer season to get necessary dental work done, come on in and see Drs. Paul and Brant Stanovick in Mechanicsville, Virginia now.  You can reach our caring dental team by calling 804-781-1919 today!
